This is a disjointed, fragmentary collection of images from my first few years as an active photographer. Representing my artistic explorations as an undergraduate photography student, they are evidence of the naturally tentative process of creative self-definition. They are presented here for two reasons. Firstly, I value transparency in process. For me, this usually means being transparent about the process of making my images, but it can just as well mean transparency in the process of artistic change and development. Secondly, I find that in looking back on this work, I can see (in both positive and negative) the seeds of my more recent work. This helps me to avoid the pitfall of presenting discrete, supposedly complete projects or bodies of work. While I may separate my work into categories in which the images more successfully support one another, they are all part of a continuing artistic practice—one that is constantly in flux.
